We are pleased to announce that NEM Energy Group will supply two DrumPlusTM Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) for the Greenlight Electricity Centre, a large-scale combined-cycle power project located in Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada.
The Greenlight Electricity Centre is a proposed 1,864 MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility, developed in modular phases of 466 MW each. With this award, NEM will contribute to the first two modular phases. The plant is designed as a four 1x1x1 configuration (gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine) and is expected to commence commercial operation in 2029.
NEM’s scope comprises the engineering, procurement and delivery of two DrumPlusTM HRSGs, based on a proven reference design previously executed for the Cascade project for the same customer. The units will be engineered for integration into a high-efficiency combined-cycle configuration and designed to meet Canadian regulatory requirements and site-specific conditions.
The 1,864 MW Greenlight facility may see further development towards a ‘carbon capture ready’ power plant and is positioned to become one of Alberta’s most efficient power generation assets. It will play a critical role in supporting the province’s rapidly growing electricity demand, driven by large-scale investments in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data centre infrastructure.
In addition to its technical significance, the project is expected to generate substantial local economic activity, including approximately 1,500 jobs at peak construction and nearly nine million work hours in the region.
This award further strengthens NEM’s position in the North American combined-cycle market and underscores the value of proven HRSG concepts combined with tailored engineering execution for large-scale, high- performance power generation projects.
