Yara and NEM Energy Partner to Reduce NOx Emissions in Open Cycle Power Plantsyara

First Projects Secured to Implement Advanced Emission Control System “T-SCR”

Oslo, Norway / Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands – January 05, 2026 – Yara, a global leader in environmental solutions, and NEM Energy, a prominent provider of power plant technology and services, are proud to announce the successful strategic collaboration aimed at reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in open cycle gas turbine power plants. This partnership brings together deep expertise in emission control and advanced energy systems, with the first joint projects already secured and more underway.

The partnership focusses on delivering an integrated, high-efficiency NOx reduction solution tailored specifically for open cycle power plants—installations traditionally challenged by emission control due to high exhaust temperatures and fast start-stop cycles. Leveraging Yara’s cutting-edge Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology and NEM Energy’s proven engineering and plant design capabilities, the new system will enable power producers to meet stringent environmental regulations while maintaining operational flexibility.

First Projects Awarded
The first projects under this collaboration have already been awarded and will serve as a showcase for the joint technology. One of the new power plants will be installed in Texas, USA, and will feature 5 new NEM T-SCR units with Yara’s industry-leading reagents and catalyst systems, integrated seamlessly with NEM Energy’s power plant equipment design to ensure optimal performance and complying with stringent emission regulations. Meanwhile NEM and Yara have secured orders for more than 10 units during 2025 with a positive outlook on 2026.

Quotes from Leadership
“We are excited to partner with NEM Energy to bring sustainable solutions to the power generation industry,” said Klaus Weigl, Vice President of Environmental Technologies at Yara. “This collaboration is a key step toward enabling low-NOx operation even in challenging open cycle power plants, supporting a cleaner energy future.”

Alexander Wisse, CEO of NEM Energy Group, added: “Combining Yara’s deep knowledge of NOx reduction with our expertise in thermal and power plant systems allows us to deliver truly integrated and efficient emission control solutions. These first projects are just the beginning.”

Driving the Energy Transition
As global efforts intensify to curb air pollution and transition toward cleaner energy systems, the demand for reliable emission control technologies continues to grow. The Yara–NEM Energy collaboration directly addresses this need, offering plant operators a compliant, efficient, and scalable pathway to reduce their environmental footprint.
